Alliance Française de Chicago: Chez Kids Academy

The design is totally French; this inviting environment allows children to discover their inner Molière!
~ Jack McCord, Director, Alliance Française de Chicago.

Enter Chez Kids Academy by passing through a welcoming series of graphic French and English messages. Children immediately understand that this bright and spirited space has been designed just for them.

In La Classe, activity centers encourage the spoken and written word. Discovery boxes, found nearby at the Musée Objets wall, are full of multicultural books, puzzles and games to discover. A brightly colored castelet, a traditional puppet theatre, resides in Le Theatre, and represents a rich tradition of dramatic experience that is difficult for children of all ages to resist. Children gain access to a virtual Francophone gateway via the Internet, Le Café, and its adjacent library. Well stocked with books, supplies, maps, atlases and mini-clocks, from digital to cuckoo, this nook is the perfect place to spend some time, relaxing and reading. The Celebrations changing exhibit wall allows teachers and students to pin up work and items of interest, and also use the dry erase panels for lessons and announcements.

The children’s center is a passport for intercultural learning; it takes young visitors on a language journey all around the globe! This rich and tactile environment is filled with many discoveries of traditional and contemporary French culture, society, and art all interjected in stimulating, fun-filled zones. The goals of Chez Kids Academy match school standards, exploring and appreciating communication, culture, and geography while forming foundations for understanding.
