Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac

Engaging the Community
The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is a community energizer, bringing local business and community leaders together to create play and learning in a safe and healthy environment for all children. The expansion transformed a former Pick ‘n Save into a destination within the Waterfront District, now filling 22,000 SF with public spaces that engage, S.T.E.A.M. Classrooms, exhibits that cross disciplines and an outdoor space built by the community.

The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is committed to providing delightful and exemplary museum experiences for all visitors – from the moment they walk through the doors until the moment they leave, and every moment in between. The public spaces were considered equally to amenities and experiences; as such, they set new standards by meeting practical needs in exceptional ways. The result is a museum that’s inherently flexible and fun throughout. The giant check-in desk is mobile, bathroom sinks are sustainable and engaging, gathering around the upright piano is memorable, and the proposed Kapok Tree Climber will be an iconic element.

The action begins right at the entry, with integrated exhibits that move visitors through the public parts of the building. Immersive environments now fill 22,000 SF of exhibit space with discovery and wonder. The impetus for many of the exhibits came directly from those invested in the museum:  children, staff, educators, and community advisors, all of whom helped create the upcoming galleries such as P.O.L.A.R. LabAventura Rainforest and the Map Zone, which foster curiosity, creativity, conservation, and caring.
