EVERYONE (850,000 visitors since opening) visiting YAA is incredibly amazed with the exhibitions and the Young At Art Museum experience!  Thank you to Architecture Is Fun for their creative vision and artful design that assists in defining YAA! ~ Mindy Shrago, Executive Director/CEO, Young At Art Shifting the museum paradigm, Young At Art Museum takes a sophisticated design approach to bridging the gap between an adult art museum and a children’s museum. The renovated family gallery is “super chill,” designed to be worthy of a child’s curiosity and adult admiration, demonstrating everyone is hard-wired for creativity. The whiteness of the space serves as a blank slate for artistic expression and media exploration, from new-age technologies, including a Smart Table™, projector and iPads, to traditional art-making. It is an environment rich in evocative objects and commissioned art installations that inspire active learning, choices, and social engagement. Both orientation and terminus, the discovery gallery is “the place” that frames museum visits.

Pablo’s Magical Theater: Now Showing at Young At Art Museum

    November 19, 2012 /

Within the Young At Art Museum, the GreenScapes Gallery teaches young artists to be change agents. Artist Pablo Cano serves as the inspiration and catalyst for recycled art making in two related spaces: Pablo’s Magical Marionette Theater and Pablo’s STEAM Recycled Workshop. Within the grotto-like theater, children, students and families watch fascinating detailed films of Pablo’s creative process, his ability to transform found and discarded objects into mesmerizing puppets, and a series of classic tales, showcasing Pablo’s puppets found on display.

A Cityscape of Play A fanciful metropolis, Playmaze encourages a child’s imagination in a context-rich and integrated environment. This 1,500 sf city is designed specifically for children under six years of age. Scale, proportion, color, and form create a “mini-city” that is safe while encouraging independence, physical manipulation, and investigation; all of which are essential to a child’s development.

Having fun should be a given for a project as playful and stimulating as the creation of a children’s museum. Our renovation process presented challenges that were addressed collaboratively, creatively, and with quirky good humor. It’s easy for an architectural firm to tell you that they work collaboratively but with this team, the collaborative process was a reality. ~ Susan Broad, Executive Director, DuPage Children’s Museum
